Marazion Beach UK - Acrylic on canvas 25.4 x 35.6cm
I chose red to undercoat and contrast the green. I lightened colours to relax the eye and lifted the rock pool blues, to add a continuity of reflection from the pale sky. I increased the size of the main focal points and nearest rocks, lengthening the pools, because I wanted to feel like a kid; tip-toeing carefully. I curved the main lines of perspective down to the corners of the canvas, to add a sense of trying not to fall.

Whitby UK - Acrylic on canvas 60.4 x 40.2cm
In Whitby it never fails to rain, then sunshine appears bringing a bright spectrum of colours. I dragged the paint vertically until it created horizontal rooflines, differing in height for surface tension, emphasising geometry, and anchoring the buildings. The highlights lead to circle the painting anticlockwise, then upwards, across the gable ends, high, onto the right edge.
Powerplant - Acrylic on canvas 35.6 x 25.4cm
As a kid I remember loads of these electrical substations, with a ball stuck in the railings, but, as an adult I'm oblivious to them. I uncluttered the centre of the composition to make it inviting and contradict the yellow 'danger of death' signs. I divided the canvas horizontally, into branches, distant light and close railings. In 'Abstract theory', yellow and blue create green, so I used yellow to create tension diagonally and blue to diffuse it, circling the background of the branches before defining the sub-station.
